Details

Handel's most celebrated opera, Giulio Cesare, will be presented in its thrilling, passionate and revengeful entirety. It will be performed over two successive mid-week nights as Part I: The Death of Pompey and Part II: Cleopatra's Needle, and as a full day event on Saturdays. The core of the opera's second act will be presented in each of the two parts, from a different narrative perspective, reflected in different musical ornamentation. James Conway and Cordelia Chisholm's new production respects this opera seria in its own terms, and looks closely at the suspicion of all things Catholic and European in doughty Hanoverian England.
