Derived from Ben Jonson's play The Silent Woman, the plot turns on the search by curmudgeonly old Admiral Sir Morosus for a young wife who will be quiet, as he cannot stand noise. Aminta wife of his nephew Henry who runs a noisy theatre group is put forward as candidate.
