Broadcast - Met Opera: Manon

Broadcast

Work:: Broadcast (S1893778055)

Broadcasts directly from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and other famous theatres around the world onto a big screen. Broadcasts may be of live performances or "Encore" screenings of previous famous productions recorded "as live".

Production:: Met Opera: Manon (T0912063489)

The opera charts Manon's course from wide-eyed innocent to a woman who has seen all too much of the world, and Massenet supplies a lushly romantic score, bursting with life and colour. On her way to the convent where she is destined to spend her days, Manon falls instantly in love with the handsome Des Grieux, and they elope. Torn between her devotion to Des Grieux and the seductiveness of glamour and riches, Manon's voracious appetite for life blazes through the opera. Whilst he only wants the girl, the girl wants to have it all - even if it proves ultimately to be her undoing.

CORONAVIRUS: All venues in the UK were shut down on March 16, 2020, and the restrictions were finally lifted on July 19, 2021. It is important to mention that the UK Theatre Web archive listings (iUKTDb) from March 2020 to July 2021 might not be accurate due to the lack of information regarding rescheduled and cancelled shows.
