Neuva Generacion - The Journey and Escape

Neuva Generacion

Work:: Neuva Generacion (S0772638111)

Nueva Generaci

Production:: The Journey and Escape (T886221070)

El Viaje (The Journey) is a dance-theatre piece created as part of a one-year education program of contemporary dance and drama for Nueva Generación at Praxis between September 2001 - July 2002. This project has been directed and taught by Andrea Puerta and Carmen Vilches and supported by Praxis and Tower Hamlets College. In El Viaje Nueva Generación takes you through their good and bad experiences after their arrival in UK. The pain after leaving their homeland, the sadness from missing their family and problems such as not understanding the language are contrasted with their celebration of becoming characters in a world of fantasy game where all their sweetest dreams come true. The piece is closed with an expression of love and solidarity through flowers and good memories. El Viaje has already been performed at Praxis and at Birkbeck College in June 2002 as part of the Refugee Week. Escape - Escape is the result of an exchange between Suny Savoy Company, a Mexican dance group, and Nueva Generación, made in the context of the recent Latin American Dance and Theatre Festival Fronteras and performed at The Blue Elephant Theatre. In Escape the dancers destroy the walls of a prison, a metaphor of their own fears. As it is common in human beings, fears become barriers that restrain and even frustrate wills, desires and dreams. Yet contact and encounter with others can make possible breaking the wall and getting out of their prison.
