Steven Isserlis & Olli Mustonen - Piano

Work:: Steven Isserlis & Olli Mustonen - Piano (S0379832779)

Production:: (T573121874)

Following his critically acclaimed and sold-out performances of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas, cellist Steven Isserlis returns to Southbank Centre with Finnish virtuoso Olli Mustonen, recently hailed by the New York Times as 'a pianist of formidable technique and idiosyncratic style'. Olli's 2006 Cello Sonata is featured in this concert. The other main works are by two giants of 20th-century Russian music who had the utmost respect for one another, but who were utterly different as people and composers. If Shostakovich's sonata tends towards introspective soul-searching laced with irony, Prokofiev's is more like a warmly affectionate embrace.
