Not many plays cause a riot when they are premiered, but that is exactly what happened at the 18th century opening of Jarry's avant-garde classic. Both outrage and awe ensued as Pa Ubu roared at the shocked Paris crowd whilst Jarry was crowned as one of the fore-runners of the Theatre of the Absurd.
