The Royal Court, in collaboration with the British Council, has been working with young writers in Nigeria during the last two years. This project has been led by playwright Leo Butler, directors Ramin Gray, Clare Lizzimore and Hettie Macdonald, and Royal Court Associate Director Elyse Dodgson. Five playwrights (Lekan Balogun, Iweha Chukwuma, Busola Elegbede, Kunle Okesipe and Ozi Okoli) have been invited to London for a week to work with British actors and directors. The culmination of the week will be a presentation of extracts followed by a panel discussion about the impact of new writing for the theatre in Nigeria today. With additional support from the British Council.
