The Proms celebrates Steve Reich's 75th birthday year with a distinguished instrumental ensemble - making its first appearance since 2004 - and a clutch of seminal pieces. While this founding father of American Minimalism remains extraordinarily active, his Music for 18 Musicians is widely recognised as a peak in his own output and that of post-war music in general. The Ensemble Modern, no strangers to a work whose sonic architecture is founded on subtle shifts of harmonic and rhythmic direction, are sure to illuminate every instrumental strand, pointing connections with the composer's earlier process music.
