In the course of his long operatic career Placido Domingo has performed over 130 tenor roles, excelling in a vast range of repertoire. Following his Proms debut - only five years ago - in the Royal Opera's production of Wagner's Die Walküre, he returns with the company in a new departure: his much-anticipated first role as a baritone, for which he is taking on one of Verdi's greatest characters, Simon Boccanegra - the Doge-to-be at the centre of intrigue and uprising among the rulers and people of Venice. Antonio Pappano conducts a starry cast in this costumed semi-staging. Finish time: approx. 21:00
