OneSquareMeter/Proud, Young, London/Dirty Old River
Work:: OneSquareMeter/Proud, Young, London/Dirty Old River (S601926015)
OneSquareMeter is a duet inspired by the geographic coordinates that corresponds to the latitude of London city, a place subject to changes, vibrations, overpopulation, constant deviations, where there is room for chaos, calmness, but also for the unexpected. The dancers are spatially bound on stage, struggling to find the consistency of a sequence of movements that emerges slowly and progressively within the apparent chaos.
Proud, Young, London - Grime emerged from East London and became apparent through pirate radio stations, MC battles and under age raves. Grime music has reached audiences world wide and put London on the map with its own identity. This dance piece explores and celebrates the growth and greatness of London's music culture, its influence on young people's image, attitude and drive, taking a focus on the grime and garage scene especially.
Dirty Old River - "In London I see ghosts on every corner. Nights spent singing Big Spender alongside drag queens with nails like surfboards and voices like slate. Stamp squares of slick skies glimpsed through grimy office windows. Trudges through morning-cold streets bearing smudges of make up and regrets from the night before." Wryly-comic, confessional cabaret, Dirty Old River is a story of the loneliness and gloriousness of living in a big city. With frank, irreverent story-telling and live-looped cello and vocals, Leonie will tell you stories that are moving, funny and relatable to anyone who has ever wondered where they belong.
