Work:: Speeches (S01665922493)

Production:: (T0828506168)

UK theatre company Lone Twin’s latest site-specific performance, Speeches, has been commissioned by bite08 following last year’s Spiral which took audiences on a journey through the unique spaces of the Barbican estate, and, more recently, Ghost Dance, in which Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters dressed as cowboys and line-danced blindfolded for twelve consecutive hours. In Speeches Whelan and Winters work with a professional coach, Helen Mackintosh, to encourage members of the public to create proclamations based on their knowledge, experience and feelings about a particular location, such as their living room or office desk. Each speech is given a public performance at the location to which it refers, playing with the idea of expressing an individual opinion in a public place. In a typical day the audience could move between several different locations and depending on the subject matter and delivery, these highly personal speeches could touch on matters of wider social significance encouraging a forum for discussion and debate amongst the audience. Each speech lasts approx. 15 mins
