The Mark Morris Dance Group was formed in 1980 and gave its first concert in that year in New York. In the following years, the company s touring schedule has steadily expanded to include cities across America and Europe. Once considered the bad boy of the modern dance world, Mark Morris is now an influential and internationally celebrated choreographer whose pieces have become the standard of creativity for a new generation of dancers, choreographers and critics.

Mozart Dances

Mark Morris combines the abstract and the classical in this landmark piece of choreography. He weaves motifs from 18th century courtly and folk dances into his signature style, perfectly complementing Mozart's music. Movements, patterns and gestures are repeated, revised and combined with wholly new ideas, creating a piece of constant freshness, wit and mystery. Mozart Dances is a creative collaboration of the highest order. Mozart's piano concertos No. 11 in F and No. 27 in B flat, and his Sonata in D for Two Pianos are performed live by Emanuel Ax and Yoko Nozaki. The dancers perform against bold, fluid backdrops designed by British artist Howard Hodgkin. Mozart Dances was commissioned by the Barbican Centre (London), New Crowed Hope (Vienna), and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (New York). Part of Great Performers 2007-2008 Part of bite07.
