The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife

The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife

Work:: The Shoemaker's Wonderful Wife (S4960)

Tells the tale of a man who, tired of his wife's teasing and day dreaming, as well as the gossip of the village, runs away, leaving his wife, guilty of nothing but fantasy and frustration, to open a tavern to make ends meet, further courting the wrath of the village. He returns, disguised as a puppeteer, to present the tale of an unfaithful wife who has her lover kill her poor husband. Whilst the villagers assume this is the story of the Shoemaker's wife, the Shoemaker realises his wife's virtue, and love for him and the two unite against the rest of the village.
