Slogans
Work:: Slogans (S1525439220)
A few decades ago Albania might have been on the moon, so far was it from assimilation into contemporary Europe. Staunch communism under the authoritarian Enver Hoxha meant politics always came first. A bizarre example of Party excess were thousands of slogans, painstakingly hewn from local stone and hauled into place by hand, which adorned the sides of Albanian roads. This dryly humorous, fictional film records the efforts of a class of sloganising school kids, trying to be redder than red when it comes to toeing the Party line.
Slogans is an engaging satire and rueful memoir of almost surreal repression.
