Sakoba Dance, the UK s foremost Post Traditional African Dance Company, return to Kingston to provide a sneak preview of From Beyond, a new touring production by Sakoba s versatile company of professional dancers and musicians. The evening will also showcase AscenDANCE, an engaging and passionate collection of new dance works especially created to celebrate the next generation of dancers in Kingston and supported by the Royal Borough of Kingston and sponsored by Global Arts Kingston and ACE Osteopaths, Surbiton. From Beyond, the new dance work that will tour in the Spring, will transport the audience from the ethereal Amazon to a spiritual connection with the African Diaspora. Themes such as environmentalism and mankind s connection to nature are explored in movement that is both powerful, touching and life-affirming. The evening will open with Sakoba s company of youth dancers performing Ishokan (Togetherness) a collection of short dances featuring students from Kingston University and Kingston College, whom Lawal has mentored over the past months. Together they bring their collective talent to bear in newly devised works in many moods and humours - from the ritualistic and spiritual to the joyous and uplifting.
