When a mysterious egg hidden inside an old carpet hatches into a fabulous, magical bird, four children are whisked away on a host of incredible adventures. The bird is the Phoenix of ancient legend - beautiful, highly cultured - but very, very vain. The carpet, naturally, is magic! From their English home to the exotic delights of India, and from the French countryside to a desert Island the four children who 'adopt' the Phoenix are whisked away on a journey to remember.
