Pinter and a Pair of Chekhov's Shorts - The Dumb Waiter/The Evils of Tobacco/The Proposal

Work:: Pinter and a Pair of Chekhov's Shorts (S507120428)

Production:: The Dumb Waiter/The Evils of Tobacco/The Proposal (T1698528957)

The Dumb Waiter - Two hitmen attend their orders in a windowless basement room. Gus is already annoying Ben, the gas has run out; and now someone is ordering ormitha macarounada down the dumb waiter. The Evils of Tobacco - A tragi-comic cry from the heart of the long-suffering man in one of Chekhov's famous short plays. Chekhov's genius for comedy was honed in the sparkling early pieces. The Proposal - In Anton Chekov's short play The Proposal, a country gentleman finally decides to ask his neighbour's daughter for her hand in marriage but cannot hold a discussion with her without engaging in furious argument. The play borders on tragedy as it often seems that the pair, in love despite themselves, will prove too frustrated to express any intentions at all.
