Work:: Sentimentalists: An Evening of Mild and Bitter (S01193026522)
Production:: (T56088239)
Songs of melancholia, irony and humour or, if you like, lovely music full of character. Joe Hirst and Phil Fowler met in 1982, Joe had words, Phil had tunes. Shortly afterwards Phil left for London, but the song writing continued for 25 years until Joe, deciding he no longer wanted to be represented by his dark, funny words, sold them to Phil for 10p. Looking for a return on his 10p investment, Phil searched for the best musicians he could find. Remarkably he was joined by classical pianist Daniel Bath, guitarist Graham Young and the rhythm section from Souled Out Band: Tony Simms on bass and Dan Hudson on drums, as well as a string ensemble.
