Scottish Ballet - In and Out/Sarcasms/Death and the Maiden/Troy Games

Scottish Ballet

Work:: Scottish Ballet (S1162744014)

Company Scottish Ballet

Production:: In and Out/Sarcasms/Death and the Maiden/Troy Games (T904069183)

In and Out - a lively, mischievous, humorous but peppered aggressive undertones. It's a sexual game - where women dance on pointe to show their modern femininity, while seducing the men, in a euphoric and light-hearted mood. Sarcasms - Eroticism and aggression combine as man and woman are irresistibly attracted to each other in an atmosphere of restlessness and irritation. Provoking, rejecting, seducing and humiliating each other in a ruthless but humorous way, tainted with irony and sarcasm, the couple searches for each other's weak spots, both being especially vulnerable in their sexuality. Death and the Maiden - A dance about life, interrupted by premonitions of death both of ourselves and the people we love. Based on the theme of Schubert's song Death and the Maiden, the second movement is a series of conversations between a frightened, depressed, curious and even elated young girl as she comes to terms with her own death. Troy Games - Created for London Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1974 and first performed by Scottish Ballet ten years ago, Troy Game is performed to Brazilian Batucade (Samba) music. A cheerful tongue-in-cheek display of male strength and machismo, Troy Game is North's irresistible and eternally popular tribute to the ancient warrior spirit as the men are drawn into a spectacular, competitive dance with often hilarious results!
