History is made by everyone, not only famous people. In 1962 Nelson Mandela managed to travel around South Africa fighting apartheid by posing as the chauffeur to rich white man. That man was Cecil Williams, an urbane successful Johannesburg theatre director, committed freedom-fighter and homosexual. This remarkable documentary mixes interviews with friends and colleagues, old newsreels and apartheid propaganda to reveal not only the savagery but also the hedonism of an epoch now consigned to the dustbin of history.
