Made five years after the stage musical reached it's peak of popularity, the Czech director, Milos Foreman created this extremely watchable film version that starts out pretty hippy - trippy but gradually delivers its anti-war message with real force. Centring on Oaklahoma kid Claude the first half of Hair shows the boy in New York a few days before he has to join the Army and fight in Vietnam: cue dancing hippies and mind-bending hashesh fantasies. But when Claude actually becomes part of the war the whole movie ups the emotion and, what began as a frolic in the park, becomes a sobering indictment of conflict.
