Hendon Times: 11Jan01: Star Rating
The sequel, Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, takes all its predecessor's hard work and violently hacks it to shreds. It's so horrifically bad it almost feels like a parody. Debut director Joe Berlinger has attempted to distance the sequel from the original by ditching the original film's stomach-churning, documentary-style shaky camerawork, for a TV soap opera style that is equally likely to induce vomiting. Even worse, Mr Berlinger has forgotten to make the film scary. And that's quite an important thing to remember when you are following up one of the most frightening films ever made. It's sure to have respectable cinema-goers over the country calling for him to be burned at the stake. Because Book Of Shadows is not only the flop of the year so far, but possibly the worst sequel of all time. You have been warned.
