Details

First performed in 1958 this full-length love story is set in a mythical, medieval kingdom by the sea. Imbued with the supernatural, the ballet tells the story of the playful and mischievous water sprite, Ondine, who falls in love with a mortal and, finally, at the command of the Lord of the Sea is set to destroy him. Myth, melodrama and murder blend with breathtaking ease in the three acts, conjuring up images of angry waves, forest streams and the underwater world.
