Terrestre/Holdin' Fast - T1562021489

A double bill of two works inspired by the writing of Milan Kundera. Italian choreographer/performer Simona Bertozzi returns to The Place where she made her UK debut in 2007 as part of Aerowaves. Her work is informed by Milan Kundera's dissection of the fragile nature of an individual's fate. An intense and powerfully-performed solo, Terrestre explores the relationship between body and mind, action and memory. As the performer's vulnerable, terrestrial body struggles to come to terms with the experiential world it exists within, the work invites meditation on the struggle for equilibrium between the physical and the spiritual. Dance ensemble DOT504 (Czech Republic) commissioned two former members of Wim Vandekeybus' celebrated company Ultima Vez: Jozef Frucek (Slovakia) and Linda Kapetanea (Greece), who are forging their own choreographic path with RootlessRoot. They took as their starting point Kundera's best known novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Holdin' Fast was nominated for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Total Theatre Award for Best Young Company last year and is a no-holds barred ballad on sexual dependency. Combining contemporary physical dance with theatrical forms and original music, Holdin' Fast immerses an audience in sexual fantasy, as three couples search for the physical and psychical possibilities of the human body.Choreographer Jozef Frucek (Holdin' Fast).
