I Just Close My Eyes: Here Are The Devils/Softer Swells/Cameo Cookie - T0665001255

I Just Close My Eyes: Here Are the Devil - This piece delves into the women's fears and fantasies under the spotlight of their own twisted imaginations. As a twosome they are by turns a sisterly double act, heckling adversaries or past and present versions of the same has-been. A darkly comic and intimate work of doubleness, decay and looming microphones. This is a UK premiere. Amy and Valentina are a pair of London based performer/choreographers whose work has been performed internationally. Independently Amy has worked with Maresa von Stockert's Tilted Productions and Conor Doyle and Valentina with Protein Dance, and Clod Ensemble amongst others. Softer Swells - Inspired by a poem about memory that is disjointed both in structure and content, Aoife takes us on an unusual non-linear journey. This high-energy piece, filled with Irish cultural undertone, compels the audience through intense physicality and its contrasted soundscape and choreography. Be transported in a full body experience of dance poem. This is a UK premiere. Cameo Cookie - Award winning British choreographer Gary Clarke brings to The Place a new one woman show. Cameo Cookie is the story of Anita Bryant, the honey-voiced American singer and hard-boiled beauty queen who campaigned in the 1970's to crush the gay rights movement and in her words, 'to do away with the homosexuals'. A scintillating mix of movement and gesture, music, spoken word, props, gimmicks and a splash of irony, Cameo Cookie presents a series of strikingly visual vignettes as a reflection of a woman who led a homophobic crusade and yet ended up as the name of a popular cocktail in gay bars all over America.
