Swinging at the Cotton Club archiveThe music, dance and songs of Harlem's hottest club from 1920s New York City. The music and dance routines will be recreated by jazz dance company The Jiving Lindy Hoppers and Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra who honour the exuberance and sounds of The Cotton Club. Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Lena Horne and Fats Waller were staples of the club, while dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit-up the stage with their breathtaking routines. The first Cotton Club Revue was created in 1923 and there were two new revues produced each year for over 16 years. Some of the songwriters who contributed material to the Cotton Club Revues were Dorothy Fields, Jimmy McHugh, Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler. The Duke Ellington Orchestra was the house orchestra for a number of years and each revue featured glamorous dancing girls, tap-dancers and vaudeville acts.
