With a songwriting talent that oozes mature reflection, and a smooth soul-tinged voice that's earned her endless plaudits, it was no surprise when Julia quickly outgrew her early Eighties career as backing singer for the likes of Kim Wilde and Mari Wilson. In 1988 her self-titled debut album was a chart hit on both sides of the Atlantic, as was the acclaimed follow-up Porcelain. And 1991's Swept gave her a Top 20 hit single with the sumptuous (Love Moves In) Mysterious Ways.
