English Sinfonia presents the first of two transatlantic themed concerts that contrast the urban with the pastoral and the traditional with the modern; both programmes featuring music by the New York based Philip Glass.After their St. Paul's Suite and Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus comes Glass's Symphony No.3 which treats all nineteen players of the orchestra as individual soloists. Following the interval, English Sinfonia principals Janice Graham and Adam Mackenzie will appear as soloists in the first performance of You Are Here, a double concerto for the unusual combination of violin and bassoon by Oxford based composer Geoffrey Alexander
