Don't Shoot the Clowns
Work:: Don't Shoot the Clowns (S041583283)
Jo made three visits to Iraq: during the time of sanctions, as the war started and in the early months of the occupation - to learn about and blog stories of life for ordinary people. Her third visit, with fighting and bombing at a peak, also had another motive: to take a touring circus to the children of Iraq... On her journey Jo encountered the purest innocence and the ugliest brutalities, met forgotten helpless and inspirational people, and ended up under fire from Iraqi and American forces in Fallujah. Jo's work tells many stories still unheard by Westerners and asks questions which the play will explore: How do events get reported to us? Who tells us and why? And how far can an individual go to change things? A feisty, heart-breaking yet inspiring production combining story-telling, circus and magic.
