50th anniversary production. The familiar tale of Belle and The Beast is this year’s summer pantomime - a musical comedy treat for the whole family! 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Cheltenham Children’s Theatre Association (CCTA). It has performed a production, usually a musical, here at The Playhouse every summer since 1958. The youngsters handle every aspect of the show from acting and directing to lighting and set building, rehearsing every day before the production during school holidays. They also meet on occasional Sundays throughout the year to improve their skills. We believe that CCTA is still the only non-professional theatre company in the UK that is entirely run by and for young people 18 and under. Many existing adult members of the theatre started out with CCTA and some former members now work in the professional theatre industry. The Playhouse is extremely proud to have been instrumental in the formation of this company and to have supported the successful productions the children have presented for so many years.
