New Musicals Alliance Conference

Work:: New Musicals Alliance Conference (S1009994563)

The conference is being planned in association with the Society of London Theatre, the Theatrical Management Association, Mercury Workshop and the Theatre Investment Fund to find "the missing links" which would help encourage new producers to present new musicals to audiences in the UK. Invitation to emerging Directors and Producers The Conference is hoping to uncover new ideas, do some innovative matchmaking and share knowledge with a number of visiting US based producers and innovators. There will be 20 places dedicated to emerging UK directors and emerging UK producers to join recognised names in the business and enliven the debate. Interested directors and producers should apply to Chris Grady at New Musicals Alliance at 4 Shamrock Street, Clapham North, London SW4 6HE or e-mail chris.grady@newmusicals.co.uk Informing Emerging UK Musical Writers The results of the one-day discussion will form part of the debate at the annual conference of musical theatre writers which is planned by NMA with support from the Mackintosh Foundation and Warner/Chappell from 16th-18th June in London. In launching the programme Chris Grady said: "There are directors who want the chance to produce new work; there are producers who need help finding the right shows and the investment needed; there are writers trying to find directors and producers; and there are audiences & theatres crying out for new shows to visit. The Conference will ask some simple questions and try to find some missing links to help bring everyone together with a single aim - to satisfy the demand for musicals." Editors' Note: New Musicals Alliance is a charitable trust dedicated to the promotion and development of new musicals in the UK. It is involved with over 200 writers working in the UK, manages a range of training programmes for emerging writers and links with the work of the Vivian Ellis Prize for new musicals and the BBC Wales/City of Cardiff initiative to launch a Festival of Musicals in 2002. NMA is currently underway with fundraising/sponsorship programme to enable the launch of three key training and development initiatives to serve UK writers - a musicals resource centre, a library and a post-graduate diploma in musical theatre writing, none of which are currently available in the UK.
