The Farm

Work:: The Farm (S1091384328)

The Farm is an earthy, saccharine-free tale of life as it is today on many British farms. Written between the onslaught of BSE and Foot and Mouth, Nell who was born and raised in a Somerset village populated by many dairy farmers, has created a touching and realistic drama. It is in turn hilariously funny, deeply moving and always engrossing. Three generations of a farming family live together on a farm that is heading for financial disaster. Rose, the farmer's wife is trying to hold her family together in a rapidly changing world. Her husband Vic, grimly determined to carry on despite the loss of his cattle, chooses not to face the reality of their situation. They live in the farmhouse with Vic's dad Edmond, who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. His frequent re-telling of his memories of the glory days of farming accentuates their current situation. And then there is Gavin, the son of the farmer for whom the land has no future. Into this family predicament comes Sue, a market researcher for a supermarket chain. Her lack of understanding of their circumstances makes for a poignant counterpoint in their lives.
