Galileo's Daughter

Work:: Galileo's Daughter (S0137753939)

The year is 1633. The great visionary scientist, Galileo, is accused of heresy for arguing that the Earth moves round the sun. In Florence, his illegitimate daughter is living as a nun, a life ruled by poverty, tyrannical priests and the encroaching plague. But, from her cloistered world, Maria Celeste is her father's greatest source of strength and understanding. Galileo's Daughter is based on the award-winning novel by Dava Sobel who also wrote the best-selling Longitude. Timberlake Wertenbaker, author of Our Country's Good and one of our leading playwrights, has created an extraordinary vision of the complex love between father and daughter.
