The programme includes Jiri Kylian's sensuous duet Study from Blackbird that, like a blackbird's love song, resonates with emotion. Two works by Christopher Bruce feature. The first, Hurricane is a dramatic solo that tells the poignant story of Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, the African/American boxer who was wrongfully imprisoned on a triple murder charge. The second Grinning In Your Face is inspired by images of the American mid-west during the middle decades of the last century, and the music of virtuoso blues and folk guitarist Martin Simpson, the ballet is laced with emotional power and lyrical beauty that are hallmarks of Bruce's work. PreSentient is a dynamic new work, inspired by Steve Reich's Triple Quartet which pushes dancers to their physical limits as they perform razor-sharp choreography at a frenzied pace.
