Atkinson, a young British cartographer drawing up borders in 1880s Afghanistan, stumbles into an affair with Virginia, the estranged wife of an exiled and arrogant botanist, sparking self-reflection on their national, personal and sexual identities. Set in the shadow of war and espionage between the colonial empires of Great Britain and Russia, Ordnance is a theatre production about imposed and manmade borders, both personal and physical, and how they can categorise, restrict and shape identity.
