Information for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch - Vollmond at Sadler's Wells Theatre, Inner London (Dance or ballet). Pina Bausch is one of the most significant choreographers of the 21st century. After setting up her company in 1973, she created 42 pieces in a career spanning 36 years before her untimely death in 2009. She left behind a peerless legacy of having popularised a renewed brand of dance theatre around the world, continuing to inspire choreographers in every discipline of dance. One of the last works ever made by Pina Bausch in 2006, Vollmond, meaning "full moon" or "high tide", has the reputation to turn people wild. The stage is a rocky, stark landscape with never-ending rain glistening pools of water which the performers run through ankle-deep. They swim across the moat underneath the tall rock, glide and crash against walls, and dance wildly in Marion Cito's flowing dresses. A series of extended solos moves between the cruelty and sadness which torment the dancers and lovers on stage. This iconic work by Pina Bausch was last performed at Sadler's Wells in 2013.
