Information for Impact Driver at Sadler's Wells Theatre, Inner London (Dance or ballet). Eve Stainton's Impact Driver crafts tension and suspense as a state of continuous transformation. This large-scale, multidisciplinary performance work interrogates stereotypes and gender through the language of fabrication, disruption and absurdity. The performers undertake a series of movements requiring live negotiation and decision-making, with live welding layered with sound, movement, and sculpture. Stainton works with notions of 'being on tenterhooks' and 'caught in the act'. Revelling in playing with tropes, industrial activity and shared labour, Impact Driver celebrates gender non-conforming lesbian and trans-masc experiences. With live sound scored by Leisha Thomas and Mica Levi, Impact Driver is performed by Tink Flaherty, Imani Mason Jordan Romeo Roxman Gatt, and Eve Stainton. The work evolved through Stainton working alongside non-movement trained creatives; being inspired by their backgrounds, different histories and research concerns in the rehearsal room.
