Acosta Danza - Folclor: Paysate, Soudain, La Nuit/Soledad/Mybrid
Information for Acosta Danza - Folclor: Paysate, Soudain, La Nuit/Soledad/Mybrid at Royal Opera House, West End (Dance or ballet). Founded in 2017 by Carlos Acosta and based in Havana, the company is made up of the best dancers Cuba has to offer who have trained in both ballet and contemporary dance styles. The programme highlights the versatility of Acosta Danza dancers who hail from both classical and modern dance backgrounds. Folclor focuses on the company's Cuban roots, which are infused with African, Spanish, Latin American and European influences - making up the melting pot that is Cuba. Paysage, Soudain, La Nuit - Swedish choreographer Pontus Lidberg's Paysage, Soudain, La Nuit depicts a celebration of youth, set in the light of dusk and twilight. The work incorporates Latin footwork and a feverish rumba-inspired score by Leo Brouwer. Soledad - Rafael Bonachela's Soledad is a slick and passionate duet that draws on the choreographer's Spanish roots to explore the wild and tender sides of a relationship. The music of Mexican singer Chavela Vargas is combined with Gidon Kremer's Hommage to Piazzolla to score this slick and emotionally charged duet. Hybrid - Cuban choreographers Norge Cedeño and Thais Suárez close the programme with Hybrid, which seamlessly blends the African traditions of Yoruba with contemporary dance. Linbury Theatre
