Another year, another Chrismas at Kew - I have to say it is one of the evenings I really look forward to and we were particularly lucky with the weather this time; dry and mild. Yet again this is a lovely evening out - a stroll through a magically lit Kew Gardens with some beautiful exhibition pieces, the Hive, a son-et-lumiere, fairground rides (yep, I went om the helter skelter) and food courts plus live plays for the kids (adults welcome) and a rather odd disco section.
Plenty of "ooh, ahh" moments can be found, the field of coloured lights is quite magical to watch and listen to and the 5 days of Christmas, lit by fire and played with burd and other natural sounds, is very special. I think this is the best light show over the lake of the three I have seen and the viewing area is perfectly set though remember to look behind you as the lights play over the building.
Cumberland sausage was lovely, if somewhat chaotically served and mulled wine with a shot of rum always makes the evening go better. Local parking can be a bit hard to find but the entrance is only a very short walk from Kew Garden station. A great start to the Christmas season.
